What's Wrong With This Picture and Society as a Whole

“Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.” That’s the fatherly advice I have this week for a fellow dad blogger who found his way into the headlines by posting what seems to be nothing more than a picture of a dad brushing his little girl’s hair.  Nothing too exciting really; just a dad wearing a baby while brushing his other “baby’s” hair. Is it anything special that he’s an African-American dad? Not in my world, but I’m sure we all have different perspectives on this and this might be foreign to some - it might even cause others to say stupid, racist things that are just hurtful for the sake of being hurtful. Is it a good picture? I mean, it doesn’t represent my life, as my son’s a little too large to wear and my daughter would rather sit and have her hair done in front of the T.V., but, taken at face value, it’s not a bad depiction of an involved dad, doing his thing. Is it real? Well, that’s the question, I guess, as the dad in question claims he had the camera on a timer, but many are suggesting babies don’t just stare at cameras unless there is someone behind them. And maybe that’s the problem with the picture? It’s unbelievable, on so many levels.

Quote From "Boyz N the Hood" (1991)If our platform has ever been in question, we have a very simple message at Fodder 4 Fathers: Dads Matter. We don't take kindly to moms saying they don't, and we certainly don't support the notion that it's okay for a father to abandon his children, under any circumstances. Of course, we support single moms who find themselves rasing their children alone- we were raised by one - but that's not to say we don't advocate for parents to work out their differences wherever possible and do everything in their power to ensure that their kids have the opportunity to know both their mom and their dad.
